Muscle Weakness

Trauma to the spinal cord can lead to muscle weakness and muscle atrophy. The normal autonomic signals that are sent to the muscles to maintain normal tone and strength may be disrupted. The disruption in signaling over time can lead to both muscle weakness and atrophy. Furthermore, trauma to the spinal cord may disrupt the motor signals sent from the brain to the muscles of the body which provide movement. Over time, when these signals are disrupted, both muscle weakness and atrophy may occur. Spinal cord injury may also result in motor dysfunction where the signals to control the body's muscles are weak which lead to uncoordinated movements. The Neuro-Acupuncture techniques work to strengthen the signaling of the autonomic nervous system to create and maintain normal muscle tone. In addition, the muscles themselves are stimulated directly which increase and preserve their strength.
