Michael Akong LAc, MS, MPH

Michael Akong received his bachelors degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the University of California at San Diego. He later completed his Masters in Public Health from San Diego State University. He continues to assist many clinics that serve the poor in San Diego and Mexico. He also has over 25 scientific publications and five U.S. patents in biomedical research over the past 23 years (including over 18 years with Merck). A graduate of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, Michael has investigated many applications of Oriental Medicine and has worked with some of the best physicians in the world including Professor Ming Qing Zhu and Toshikatsu Yamamoto M.D., Ph.D. Michael has three clinics for the treatment of spinal cord injury, stroke/brain injury and general/internal medicine. For over one year he has had medical staff privileges at UCSD for continued research using acupuncture. He is also the first practicing physician in Oriental Medicine for Paradise Valley Hospital in San Diego, and the first in their 22 hospital system.
